Shahba- Siyan Nebo, who was displaced from Afrin to Shahba with her family after the city was occupied by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions, lives in the town of Keferne. The velvet voice of this 16-year-old singer having a unique voice is loved by everyone.

The musical journey of Siyan Nebo began when she was four. When she was only seven, she became a member of ‘Çivîkên Zeredeşt’, a children’s musical group. She received singing lessons to train her voice. In an interview with NuJINHA, she told how her musical journey started.

 “As the Çivîkên Zeredeşt musical group, we performed in festivals and celebrations held in Shahba. I want to preserve Kurdish art. My parents always support me in my musical journey. Thanks to them, I am able to perform my art today. I try to sing beautiful songs for my community.”

Siyan Nebo also wants to learn how to play guitar. “I tell the pain and resistance of the Kurdish people in my songs,” she said, “I cannot live without songs and art as people cannot live without water. I think people can express their emotions through art. Kurdish singers have told the heroism, resistance, struggle and suffering of the Kurdish people in their songs for hundreds of years. I sing songs that tell the Kurdish history, stories and revolution.”

 ‘Kurdish culture, language and art must be preserved’

Calling on the Kurdish people to preserve their culture, language and art, Siyan Nebo said, “Preserve your culture and your existence. I call on all Kurdish young people, especially young women, to preserve their culture, language and art and to take part in the revolution. We should always remember that we are the future of our society.”
