Yazidi women: We will never forget our martyrs
Condemning the massacres that took place in Paris on January 9, 2013 and December 23, 2022, Yazidi women said, “We will follow in the footsteps of Sara, Evîn and their comrades. We will take their revenge by maintaining their struggle for freedom.”
Shengal (Sinjar)- On January 2, Menal Mêrdin, who fought for revolution for 43 years, was killed in the Til Ezer village of Shengal by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) in cooperation with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). The Yazidi community held a march in Shengal to condemn the murder of Menal Mêrdin. The march started in front of the building of the Peoples’ Assembly in Til Ezer and ended near a crossroad, where hundreds of Yazidis were killed by ISIS.
After the march, Yazidi women read a statement condemning the massacres that took place in Paris on January 9, 2013 and on December 23, 2022. “We will never forget the martyrs and take their revenge,” the statement said.
‘Those who killed our pioneers have the same mentality as ISIS’
Şemê Remo, member of the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Azadiya Jinên Êzîdî-TAJÊ), said, “The Turkish state cannot kill our comrades alone. Our comrades are targeted by the Turkish state in cooperation with the KDP. We, as the Yazidi community, think that those who killed our pioneers have the same mentality as ISIS. We will never forget our martyrs. We will take the revenge of our comrades.”
‘We will maintain their struggle’
TAJÊ member Rihan Salin made a speech. She condemned the massacres that took place in Paris and the murder of Menal Mêrdin by the MIT and said that they would maintain their struggle.
After the speeches, Co-chairs of the Peoples’ Assembly and the Martyrs' Families Council in Til Ezer issued a joint statement. In the statement, they said that they, as people of Shengal, would resist all attacks.
