Qamishlo (Qamishli)- “The Turkish state must lift the isolation” imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali, Kurdish women in the city of Qamishlo said, drawing attention to the process started by him.

“The isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan continues,” said Sureyya Mustafa, member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), drawing attention to the peace process started by Abdullah Öcalan. “The isolation imposed on him has been aggravated. Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) has turned Imrali prison into the source of the thoughts and philosophy of free life. He has written dozens of books, showing how society can govern itself and how all its people can live together.”

Sureyya Mustafa reminded the “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” by Abdullah Öcalan, calling on the Turkish state to take serious steps to build peace.

“The call of leader Apo has been welcomed by all people; however, this call faces obstacles from pro-war people. Leader Apo called for peace to build a communal society and destroy the projects of power. The PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) held its 12th congress and then announced that it dissolved itself and ended its armed struggle. The Turkish state must take serious steps to build a peaceful and democratic society; peace cannot be achieved alone.”

‘The freedom of leader Apo is the freedom of women’

The Turkish state must seriously evaluate the situation in the Middle East in order to prevent a world war, Sureyya Mustafa emphasized, adding: “Leader Apo wants to build a communal society in which everyone can have an equal and peaceful life. As women, we must strengthen our struggle to implement the Peace and Democratic Society Project. The freedom of leader Apo is the freedom of women. Leader Apo struggles for the freedom of all people, especially women.”

‘As women, we demand the physical freedom of leader Apo’

Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan has taken many steps for peace, said Xêriya Xelef, a member of the Martyrs' Families Council. “However, no steps have been taken by the Turkish state. The Turkish state continues to impose an isolation on him. As women, we demand the physical freedom of leader Apo. We keep struggling and resisting everywhere. Leader Apo wants all people to have a free, peaceful and equal life and a free country.”

‘The ideology of leader Apo liberates women’

Delal Bedûr, an Arab woman in Qamishlo, also thinks that the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is the freedom of women. “The ideology of leader Apo liberates women. As women, we demand the physical freedom of leader Apo. The Turkish state must take steps to lift the isolation imposed on him.”
