Women journalists: We strengthen our hope for the future
“We strengthen our hope and protect our future. We say Jin, Iiyan, Azadî,” the Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Association said in a statement to mark the International Women’s Day.
News Center- The Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Association has published a statement to mark the International Women’s Day.
In the statement, the women journalists wished the International Women’s Day “to bring freedom to all women.” “Despite all kinds of oppression, women never give up resisting. As women, we flock to the streets to make our voice heard. As commemorating 129 women garment workers, who were burned to death in a fire started in the factory in New York City in 1857, we remember how this day is important for women. We say that we will take to the streets for our achieved gains.”
‘We will struggle to the end’
Women will continue to stand against the patriarchal mindset in all facets of life, the statement added. “We reject the roles imposed on us by the patriarchal mindset and raise our voices against it. In this age, when solidarity is a must, we emphasize once again how women’s struggle is important to protect our gains. We will struggle to the end.”
‘We say Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’
Pointing to the struggle of women journalists, the statement said, “Against the male-dominated media industry, our reports are based on gender perspective; we are the voices of women, children and nature in all facets of life. On this important day, we also remember nine women journalists, who are behind bars (in Turkey). As the Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Association (MKG), we wish a happy International Women’s Day to all women journalists, especially those who are behind bars. We strengthen our hope and protect our future. We say Jin, Iiyan, Azadî.”
