 Idlib- Women living in Idlib, controlled by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed Hay’at al-Sham (HTS) face more oppression. Being treated as second-class citizens, women are subjected to rights violations every day. The situation of the women held in prison under false accusations and pretexts is worse. The women held in prison are subjected to torture, unfair trials and death sentences.

Her sister executed by HTS

 The sister of Suad Al-Gharib (38) was accused of adultery and executed by the HTS. “Although my sister was innocent, she was forcibly arrested under false accusations because she refused to marry one of the members of HTS,” Suad Al-Gharib told NuJINHA.

Her sister was executed after a week in prison. “She did not have a lawyer to defend her. My family could not do anything in fear.”

‘My daughter was executed in a week’

The daughter of Rawaa Nassif (45) was arrested and executed by the HTS on charges of “collaborating with foreign organizations”. “My sister was a kind-hearted person. I do not understand how she was accused of something like this. My daughter was arrested by the members of the HTS without any explanation. We received no information from her for a week. Then, we were told that she had been executed. She was executed in a week.”

Rawaa Nassif was not allowed to see her daughter for the last time and hold a funeral ceremony for her.

According to human rights activists, some of the charges against women by the HTS are “enmity against God,” or “insulting Islamic sanctities”, “cooperating with the Syrian government” or “cooperating with foreign powers” and “adultery”.

“What is going on in Idlib is the exploitation of religious authority to impose absolute control over society,” said human rights activist Rula Haj Ahmed. “The members of the HTS do not believe in the principles of justice, and what they do is to terrorize the entire society. They produce false accusations against women to control the entire society.”
