Women and Children Victims of Loose Weapons in Syria

Random weapons in Syria are escalating, killing women and children. The Syrian Observatory documents 8 dead, 6 injured in July's first half from stray bullets.

News Center — The ongoing wave of loose weapons in Syria is creating a daily reality weighed down by fear, as stray bullets have become a direct threat to civilians' lives, especially women and children, who pay the highest price in the absence of security oversight and deterrent laws.

Over just 15 days since the beginning of July, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the killing of 8 civilians in Syria, including 3 children and 2 women, in addition to 6 injured, including 2 children and a woman, in a series of separate incidents reflecting the expanding circle of danger inside homes, streets, and even workplaces .

Urgent Calls for Weapons Control

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights called on humanitarian and community organizations to launch widespread awareness campaigns to curb this phenomenon, which claims the lives of innocent people and robs children of their childhood without legal or moral deterrence
