Sanandaj- The misogynistic policies of the Iranian government have spread in all spheres of life. In Iran, the number of women who become the victims of femicide and gender-based violence increases every day.

In Sanandaj, a woman named Negin Rostami has been taken to a hospital after being set on fire by an unknown man in her yard on January 23, 2023.

 According to local reports, Negin Rostami was subjected to violence by her father and she forced into child marriage by her family when she was 12. Unfortunately, she was subjected to violence by her husband. After getting divorce, she was forced into another marriage by her family. However, she was subjected to violence by her new husband named A.M. In addition, she received threats from her ex-husband. Trying to escape from her unbreathable life, Nergin Rostami spent several days in a safe house in Sanandaj because there is no women’s shelter or no place to go in Sanandaj.

 Negin Rostami finally got a divorce from her second husband and married again. In her third marriage, Negin Rostami was happy. However, her happiness lasted for two months because she received threats from her second husband named A.M. saying,  “You will die in my hands. I will kill you one day”.

 On January 23, 2023, a man covering his face attacked Negin Rostami when she was washing her hands in her yard. The man set her on fire by pouring gasoline on her and fled. When Negin Rostami was taken to a hospital in Sanandaj, she told the nurses and the people around her that a short man covering his face tried to burn her and told about the threats she received from her second husband.

Now, Negin Rostami is held in the burn unit of the Kausar Sanandaj hospital and suffers burns over 95% of her body. She is in a critical condition.

 According to her relatives, an investigation has been launched into the incident and a lighter was found in the yard.
