We Will Stop Femicide: We don’t share data, but call to struggle
We Will Stop Femicide Platform has decided to not share this month’s data of violence against women and femicide in Turkey. “We call on everyone to take the streets on March 8 to stop this blood loss,” said General Representative of the Platform Gülsüm Kav.
News Center- We Will Stop Femicide Platform has shared monthly data of violence against women and femicide in Turkey. The platform has announced that they will not share this month’s data.
The platform posted on Twitter, “We gather in Beşiktaş on March 5 to build a world where we don’t need to share any data, where no women are killed. No one should get used to figures; the data we shared every month didn’t consist of only figures, it was the women’s lives full of struggle,” using the #KaçKadın (How many women) hashtag.
We Will Stop Femicide Platform General Representative Gülsüm Kav published a statement on social media and emphasized why they don’t share data this month.
“How many women were killed in February 2021? We don’t share this data this month. We don’t share the data you already know. They are not a number or figure. They were stories of real women. And as we describe, they could be prevented, they didn’t have any health problems but they were taken from this world because men wanted. That’s why we don’t share. And actually, we don’t know exactly how many women were killed. The We Will Stop Femicide Platform has prepared the most reliable reports in Turkey; we collect data through families and mass media so even the report of We Will Stop Femicide Platform does not reflect some parts of the truth. Because there is a rate we do not know, and this rate increases with the increase of suspicious deaths. Instead of sharing this month’s data, we call on everyone to take to the streets, to struggle.”
