News Center- The Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E) has launched Monday a letter-writing campaign, demanding the EU Council of Ministers (CoM) to take practical steps against the aggravated isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali, calling for participation in the march to be held in Cologne, Germany, on November 16, 2024.
“Leader Apo has been held in a solitary confinement cell for 26 years. 43 months have passed since he has had contact with the outside world,” the movement said in a statement. “The aggravated isolation and attacks by the Turkish state against leader APO have turned into a genocidal attack against all Kurds.”
Letter-writing campaign
In the statement, the movement said that it launched a letter-writing campaign on October 21, 2024. “We call on all people living in Europe to support our campaign to raise awareness about leader Apo’s situation. We also call on them to send the postcards containing our demands to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe. We will reach people from different nationalities such as German, French, Flemish, British, Arab people to ensure the freedom of leader Apo.”
In the statement, the movement also called for participation in the march to be held in Cologne, Germany, on November 16, 2024. “We will take to the streets to demand the freedom of leader Apo once again with the will of women, the Kurdish people and their friends. We will fight for the decision taken by the EU Council of Ministers to be implemented now, not a year later. We call on our people, especially Kurdish women, to take to the streets on November 16. Our struggle led by women will break down the torture system in Imrali.”
