TJK-E calls on all women to take to streets on May 1
The European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) has released a statement calling on all women to take to the streets on May 1, International Workers’ Day, against wars, genocidal attacks and capitalism.
News Center- The European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) has released a written statement to mark the International Workers’ Day, annually celebrated on May 1.
‘Women are exploited and made invisible’
The capitalist system makes women invisible in politics and social life by exploiting their labor, the statement said. “This system does not see women as equal, normalizes violence, harassment and rape and paves the way for femicide.”
Pointing to gender inequality in all facets of life, including politics, social and cultural life, the statement said, “The capital’s unlimited profit aim, the attacks on people and nature, the exploitation of cheap labor and labor exploitation, high inflation and the rise in energy, food and rent prices cause people to suffer from financial difficulties.”
Despite everything, women keep ruining the plans of the system by developing themselves and struggling, the TJK-E said in the statement.
“Women have become more visible today and started a war against the sexist attitudes developed against labor and the principle of freedom and equality. In order to make women more visible, women should play leading roles in syndicates. The syndicates should implement the co- representation system so that the role of women does not remain behind the scenes. This will also pave the way for equality, the fight against sexist attitudes and breaking the patriarchal system.”
‘We call on all women to take to the streets on May 1’
Emphasizing the struggle of Kurdish women and the perspective of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (English: Women, Life, Freedom)”, the statement said:
“Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) has shown that women can change their societies by playing their leading role in all facets of life and struggling against the system of oppression. Women’s struggle can build a free and democratic life and the 21st century will be the century of women. On the International Workers’ Day, we will unite for our own identity, language, culture and the freedom of our leader and say ‘No’ to the capitalist system. We will grow our struggle against genocidal policies with the motto, ‘Our Leader’s Freedom is Our Freedom’. We call on all women to take to the streets on May 1 with their colors and flags.”
