Sudan- Iran sentenced labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi and journalist Pakhshan Azizi to death in July 2024. The death sentences have kept sparking anger all around the world. Many human rights organizations and activists have released statements condemning the death sentences.

In an interview with NuJINHA, Sudanese journalist Madiha Abdalla condemned the death sentences imposed by Iran on Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi, expressing her solidarity with them.

“The death sentences are part of the policies pursued by totalitarian, male-dominated and dictatorial regimes against feminists, women activists and journalists,” she told NuJINHA.

“The practices and rights violations carried out by dictatorial regimes against people fighting for their rights and freedoms are the same as what the authorities carry out against women activists and human rights defenders in Sudan,” she added, stressing her solidarity with the campaign launched against the death sentences imposed on the two women and demanding the abolition of the death penalty and the immediate release of women activists in Iran.

“I call on all women activists to stand with women in Iran and to struggle against the attacks of the totalitarian regimes against women all around the world.”
