Qamishlo- In 2016, the University of Rojava was founded in Qamishlo, northeastern Syria. The students of the Jineology Department at the Rojava University spoke to NuJINHA about the International Women's Day, March 8. “We will keep struggling to liberate women from the patriarchal mindset denying women in the name of traditions and customs,” they said.
‘Jineology has spread all over the world’
Aya Cuma told us that they celebrated International Women’s Day by holding activities. “We believe in the thoughts and philosophy of leader Abdullah Öcalan based on women's freedom in order to change social stereotypes about women. We study jineology to improve ourselves and our society. Thanks to the Rojava Revolution and the sacrifices of women, Jineology, women’s science, has been developed in Rojava and spread all over the world.”
‘Women study in their mother language’
Noting that new generations are raised at the Jineology Department recognizing women’s rights and roles, Aya Cuma said, “Thanks to the revolution in Rojava, women have achieved many gains. One of the most important gains is that women study in their mother language. Many girls study Jineology, the science of women, in their mother language.”
‘We will liberate women from restrictions’
Rose Şaro, another student at the Jineology Department, wished a happy International Women’s Day to women all around the world. “We will liberate women from all restrictions and the chains deprive them of their rights with the spirit of March 8. As female students of the Jineology Department, we study hard for the development of society. We want to build a free, fair and democratic society that respects women, defends women’s rights and recognizes women’s roles and sacrifices. Before the revolution in Rojava, the situation of women was very different, but now they have proved themselves in politics, military, social and cultural life. Women should struggle more for their rights and gains.”
