Sit-in protest of Şenyaşar family enters its 596th day

A car was parked in front of the banner hung by the Şenyaşar family on the concrete barriers. Reacting to the situation, the Şenyaşar family wrote, “You cannot cover up the crime committed against humanity.”

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 596th day. In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse to hold their sit-in protest by hanging a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family, justice for everyone,” on the concrete barriers.

Every day, the Şenyaşar family faces persecution. Last week, the area, where the Şenyaşar family has held their sit-in protest, was surrounded by iron barriers and blockaded by the police, then it was turned into a used as a parking area by the Urfa Municipality run by the AKP. Yesterday, the municipal police seized the banner. Today, a car was parked in front of the banner hung by the Şenayaşar family.

Reacting to the situation, the Şenyaşar family wrote on their social media account, “You cannot cover up the crime committed against humanity by parking a car in front of our banner. The mother’s struggle for justice is the struggle of everyone, who has not lost their conscience. Our sit-in protest for justice continues on its 596th day… @bybekirbozdag ve @valisalihayhan.”
