Kongra Star concludes signature campaign calling for the release of detainees
Kongra Star concluded its signature campaign demanding detainees’ release and revealing forcibly disappeared persons’ fate, with broad participation urging international action against violations and addressing missing persons.
News Center – Kongra Star announced the results of its signature campaign calling for the release of detainees and the disclosure of the fate of forcibly disappeared persons held by the Syrian Interim Government. It confirmed that these results will be submitted to several international bodies, including the United Nations Secretariat, the Presidency of the UN Security Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture.
In a written statement issued today, Thursday, March 19, Kongra Star declared the conclusion of its signature campaign, which called for the immediate release of detainees and clarification of the fate of forcibly disappeared individuals held by the Syrian Interim Government in Syria. The campaign took place between March 12 and March 17.
The statement read: “With strong popular will and unwavering determination, today we announce the conclusion of the broad public signature campaign launched by Kongra Star in coordination with women’s organizations, civil society groups, and political forces, which ran from March 12 to March 17, 2026.”
Kongra Star explained that “this campaign came as a powerful outcry against the blatant violations and enforced disappearances affecting members of our people in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, Deir Hafer, Tabqa, and Raqqa. It also represents a mass rejection of the policies of betrayal and abuse practiced by the ‘General Security’ forces affiliated with the interim government, which have disregarded all international conventions and agreements.”
According to the statement, field efforts resulted in collecting signatures from legal and civil figures, particularly from Syria and other countries including the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, Argentina, Australia, the United Kingdom, Colombia, India, Finland, Germany, the United States, Chiapas, Catalonia, France, Switzerland, the Philippines, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Poland, Scotland, Galicia, Mexico, Sudan, Lebanon, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Brazil, and Denmark.
“All declared with one voice that the issue of the forcibly disappeared is a matter of human dignity that cannot be subject to compromise or delay. This number reflects the scale of popular solidarity and determination to break the silence surrounding the tragedy of thousands of families caught between the pain of loss and the harshness of waiting. It constitutes a compelling public indictment against systematic concealment and practices that have descended to the level of war crimes.”
Kongra Star expressed its deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this humanitarian effort, stating: “We especially acknowledge the families of detainees and the missing, whose patience and resilience were the true driving force behind this movement. We also salute all women’s, human rights, and civil initiatives that supported the field efforts, and every citizen who placed their trust and signature to become the voice of those deprived of their freedom behind bars. This solidarity is the true guarantee for protecting the Syrian social fabric and safeguarding the fundamental right to life and freedom.”
The statement concluded by affirming that these documented results, supported by public signatures, will be formally submitted as attachments to a legal petition addressed to the specified international bodies: the United Nations Secretariat, the Presidency of the UN Security Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture.
“We place this popular will in the hands of international organizations, urging them to assume their historical and legal responsibilities. We stress that our struggle will continue through all legitimate means until the fate of the last disappeared person is revealed and all detainees are released unconditionally.”
