Shengal (Sinjar)- On the 10th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide, the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Azadiya Jinên Êzîdî-TAJÊ) has prepared a comprehensive report on the responsibilities of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the crimes committed by the KDP during the genocide. The TAJÊ has sent the report to the countries that have recognized the Yazidi genocide, the ECHR, the Iraqi Prime Minister and the German Foreign Ministry, demanding the KDP be prosecuted for its crimes.
“On August 3, 2014, ISIS committed a genocide against the Yazidi community in Shengal, abducting about 7,000 Yazidis, mostly women and children. About 3,600 people have been rescued from ISIS while about 2,500 people are still missing. ISIS killed thousands of Yazidis and buried them in mass graves. In the last 10 years, 92 mass graves have been discovered but there are still dozens of graves that have not been discovered yet. 56 mass graves have been exhumed and the remains of more than 700 people have been recovered from these mass graves. 242 dead bodies were identified and buried by their families.
‘ISIS and its supporters must be prosecuted by an international tribunal’
“10 years have passed since the genocide. Many reports have been prepared on the reasons for the genocide. The reports reveal that ISIS and its supporters have not been prosecuted for their crimes against the Yazidis. The Yazidis demand justice for the crimes perpetrated against them. ISIS and its supporters must be prosecuted by an international tribunal. We have prepared a report so that the truth does not vanish and the perpetrators of the genocide are held accountable. We request you to take this report into consideration.”
