Release of Sermin Demirdağ postponed for five times

The release of Sermin Demirdağ, who has been held in Sincan Women’s Closed Prison, has been postponed for five times although she has already served 30 years in prison.

News Center- Sermin Demirdağ was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Diyarbakır State Security Court on April 13, 1993.

 Since she was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1993, she has been transferred to many prisons across the country and she has been recently held in Sincan Women’s Closed Prison. Her release has been postponed over various reasons while she was expected to be released on March 7, 2023, after serving 30 years in prison.

Her release postponed for five times

Since March 2023, the Sincan Women’s Closed Prison Administrative and Observation Board has postponed her release for five times for not saying, “I regret”. On August 2, her release was postponed by the board again for not maintaining “good behavior”. The board will discuss her release again on January 23, 2025.
