“The struggle will be crowned with victory by the strong will of women,” the General Command of the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) said in a statement to mark International Women’s Day.

News Center- The General Command of the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) issued a statement to mark International Women’s Day, annually observed on March 8. “We greet all women resisting torture and all forms of violence,” the statement said. “Many women have gone down in history of the struggle for freedom; Clara with her struggle, Hypatia with her science, Nawal El-Saadawi with her pen, and Sakine Cansız with her militancy. We commemorate all women, who were martyred while fighting for freedom all around the world and in Rojava such as Arjin Kobanê, Ronahî Yekta, Beritan Şoreş, Jinda Botan, Arjin Efrîn and Beritan Ereb.”
The YPJ will make 2025 a year of freedom, peace and equality for people, the YPJ emphasized in the statement. “The resistance culture of International Women’s Day is maintained in North and East Syria by the YPJ. Women defend their region and protect their people by sacrificing themselves. In North and East Syria, thousands were martyred while fighting for freedom. Women all around the world and four parts of Kurdistan have written a history with their courage. People from all ages, ethnic identities have witnessed this historic struggle by embracing each other. This struggle will be crowned with victory by the strong will of women.”
‘We are ready to do our part for the democratization of Syria’
“We are ready to do our part for the democratization of Syria,” the YPJ stated in the statement. “Our society needs democracy, equality and freedom. We can build a democratic Syria with a system that includes all people from different ethnic and religious identities. Everyone wants to have such a Syria.
“As YPJ, we are not only the defense units of North and East Syria, but also the defenders of all people, ethnic groups, languages and cultures in Syria. No one can expect us to lay down our arms while the brutal attacks on North and East Syria continue. When women, our people and our region are at risk, defending our region and protecting our people is our legitimate right. We believe that 2025 will be a year of solidarity and struggle for women all over the world. This struggle will build an era led by women. We wish a happy Women’s Day to all women.”
