Qamishlo- The “Mektebatî Children's Library” was opened at Sharif Al-Redi School in Qamishlo two months ago to create a reading culture among children. “The aim of the library is to create a reading culture among children by providing them the access to information,” said Leyla Al-Mihemed, the head of the library.

‘Most of the books were sent from abroad’

The library now has about 130 books, including Arabic, Kurdish and English books. “Most of the books were sent from abroad,” said Leyla Al-Mihemed. “This library is for children who want to read, increase their knowledge, and spend their free time reading. Our teachers encourage children to read by taking them to the library.”

 ‘Each school should have a library’

Leyla Al-Mihemed thinks that each school should have a library. “We want to increase the number of books in our library in the future. We aim to open a library in every school in North and East Syria so that new generations can be knowledgeable, intelligent and talented.”
