News Center- Swedish-Iranian actress and director Maryam Moghaddam said Wednesday that she and her husband and fellow filmmaker Behtash Sanaeeha were prohibited from leaving Iran after their passports were confiscated by the authorities at the international airport of Tehran.

In a social media post, she said her passport had been confiscated on Tuesday when she arrived at the airport for a flight to Sweden.

 “Yesterday, just when I had set off to the airport to leave the country intending to pay a visit to my family in Sweden and attend our film's premiere, my passport was confiscated,” her Instagram post said.

“I was informed that we are banned from leaving the country again,” she said, alongside a photo of the receipt stating that her passport had been confiscated.

In February 2024, Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha were also banned from leaving the country to attend the film's premiere at the Berlin film festival.

They were due to attend the Swedish premiere on Friday of their latest film, “My Favourite Cake”.

Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha got back their passports from the Iranian authorities a week ago.

“I have a really hard time to figure out why we were given back our passports when it was their intention not to let us leave. Is it an effort to mentally and psychologically abuse us?” Maryam Moghaddam said in her Instagram post.
