Lebanon’s Health Ministry: Israeli strikes killed 2,715 and wounded 8,353 the Children warns 380,000 children face catstrophic hunger from destroyed agricultural infrastructure in the South.
News Center – The Lebanese crisis is worsening amid ongoing regional tensions and deteriorating living conditions, as the country witnesses escalating humanitarian risks and a sharp decline in food security indicators, with warnings of a comprehensive collapse threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced yesterday, Wednesday, May 6, that the death toll in Lebanon from Israeli strikes had risen to 2,715 since last March 2, while the number of wounded reached 8,353, according to a statement from the ministry's Emergency Operations Center.
The National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes launched a series of raids on several southern towns, coinciding with intense artillery shelling targeting other areas. Israeli forces also carried out field detonations in the towns of Alma al‑Shaab and Tayr Harfa, while using phosphorus shells in shelling the town of Majdal Zoun.
Humanitarian warnings in Lebanon have intensified, as the international organization Save the Children announced that more than 380,000 children are facing catastrophic levels of hunger due to continued Israeli attacks on the country. In a post on the X platform, the organization said that the food situation for children is heading towards the worst, affirming that the current figures reflect an unprecedented crisis.
The organization explained that southern Lebanon, which is the most important agricultural region in the country and produces the majority of vegetables, has suffered extensive destruction of its infrastructure, leading to a collapse in productive capacity and a sharp decline in food supplies.
Since last March 2, Israeli forces have intensified their raids on Lebanese towns, villages, and cities, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries and the displacement of approximately one and a half million citizens, according to official estimates. This escalation coincides with the attacks launched by the United States and Israel on Iran.
Despite the entry into force of the temporary ceasefire agreement in mid‑April last, Israeli forces continue their daily violations of the agreement through raids, artillery shelling, and sporadic military operations, further exacerbating the humanitarian situation in the country.
