News Center- Kongra Star, an umbrella organization of women’s organizations in northeastern Syria, has issued a written statement to mark the 10th anniversary of the genocide committed by ISIS against the Yazidi community on August 3, 2014. In the statement, Kongra Star criticizes the silence of the states against the genocidal attacks on the Yazidis in 2014 and draws attention to the KDP's role in the attacks.

Commemorating those who were killed during the genocide in Shengal and the fighters who lost their lives while fighting to liberate Shengal, Kongra Star said in the statement:

“We vow once again that we will realize our martyred comrades’ dream of freedom. 10 years have passed since the genocide committed in Shengal. Thousands of Yazidi women and children were abducted, captured and sold in slave markets by ISIS. Some of them are still missing. Shengal is still under threat of massacre and genocidal attacks. This threat and genocidal attacks have not ended yet.”

‘Femicide is a crime against humanity’

The Turkish state still attempts to kill the Yazidi people using different methods, the statement said. “The KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) targets and threatens the Yazidi people by using a black propaganda. The occupation in Bashur (Iraqi Kurdistan) is expanding with the support of the KDP, threatening the life of women and paving the way for genocidal attacks and displacement. Femicide is a crime against humanity and we all must struggle against genocidal policies.”

‘The voice of Yazidi women is our voice’

We will not remain silent against all forms of violence, occupation, genocide and conspiracy attempts, Kongra Star said in the statement. “The voice of Yazidi women is our voice. As revolutionary women, we stand with Shengal, Afghanistan, Rojhilatê Kurdistan and all women engaging in the struggle for freedom. We call on all intellectuals, artists, and revolutionary women to take to the streets together and strengthen our struggle for freedom on August 3.”
