Journalist Nimet Ölmez acquitted of insult charges
Journalist Nimet Ölmez, who was accused of insulting Zeydin Kaya, AKP Hakkari Provincial Chairperson, has been acquitted.
News Center- Journalist Nimet Ölmez, who was accused of insulting Zeydin Kaya, the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) Hakkari Provincial Chairperson, for her social media posts, has been acquitted.
Nimet Ölmez and her lawyers attended the final hearing of the trial held today at the Hakkari 1st Criminal Court of First Instance. Nimet Ölmez denied the accusations against her and said, “I wanted to draw attention to a social issue (in her posts). I could not remain silent against the suicide of an 11-year-old girl after being raped. This incident was published and commented on and my post was about these comments. My post was within the scope of freedom of expression and the press. I demand my acquittal.”
The court issued the acquittal of Nimet Ölmez.
