News Center- Journalist Vida Rabani and student activist Motahareh Goonehi, imprisoned in Evin prison, started a hunger strike on November 18, 2024, to protest the denial of medical care for Narges Mohammadi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, a prominent woman human rights defender, and a journalist, and Warisha Moradi, a Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death.

In a letter from Evin prison, Vida Rabani said, Narges Mohammadi’s health “is deteriorating, with a severe surgical wound, bedsores, and a lack of necessary medical care. Warisha Moradi suffers from duodenal ulcer since her hunger strike protesting the death sentence handed down to her,” describing their hunger strike as an “act of desperation in the face of oppression.”

On September 24, 2022, Vida Rabani was arrested following a house raid during the protests that sparked in Iran following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini in Tehran. On December 31, 2022, she was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison by Branch 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of “gathering and colluding against national security” and “propaganda against state.”

Motahareh Goonehi, a suspended student of Tehran University, was arrested on May 1, 2023 and transferred to Evin Prison. She was released on bail four days later. In July 2024, she was sentenced to one year in prison by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. In October 2024, she was rearrested and transferred to Evin prison after her prison sentence was upheld by Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals.
