Human Rights Reports Reveal a Dangerous Escalation of Sexual Violence Against Women in Sudan
Women's organizations expressed deep concern over alarming escalation of sexual violence against women and girls in Sudan since the conflict began, warning real victim figures are absent due to fear and stigma.

Women activists and women's and human rights organizations revealed yesterday, Monday, 28 September, rising figures for cases of sexual violence against women and girls in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict in mid-April 2023, amid warnings that the announced figures do not reflect the true scale of the violations due to social stigma, fear of retaliation, and difficulty accessing services.
The "No to Women's Oppression" initiative said that in August 2023 it dealt with the case of 28 Filipino women who said they were subjected to gang rape in the Al-Maamoura area of Khartoum. The assault was attributed, according to their testimony, to elements of the Rapid Support Forces, before the initiative helped evacuate them to Madani and from there to Port Sudan.
In Darfur, the "Women for Peace and Security" group explained that three months ago it received information indicating that more than 225 cases of violence and sexual violation in its various forms were recorded inside a single camp for the displaced.
The "Strategic Initiative for Women" confirmed that field monitoring operations recorded during certain periods more than 71 cases in one week in areas of Kordofan, noting that the phenomenon is not limited to a specific region, but extends to include Darfur, White Nile, Al-Jazira, and Khartoum.
The "Kayan Organization for Women's Empowerment" explained that the organization's team documented more than 160 cases of different patterns of violations against women and girls since the outbreak of the conflict, including cases of rape and conflict-related sexual violence, alongside physical violence, threats, blackmail, and exploitation.
