Macedonia- Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), along with other jihadist armed groups, launched an offensive on November 27, 2024 and overthrew Assad's regime on December 8. Since then, the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions have intensified their attacks on North and East Syria, displacing tens thousands from Shahba to Til Rıfat (Tell Rifaat). Helen Gorik, a human rights defender in Macedonia, sent a message to NuJINHA, condemning the ongoing attacks on North and East Syria.
Defining the Rojava Revolution as a light for people struggling for freedom and equality against the capitalist systems, Helen Gorik said, “The system of Rojava rejects the nation-state, capitalism and patriarchy. The resistance in Kobanê is important not only for the Syrian people and the Kurdish movement but also for oppressed people all over the world. The people of Kobanê resisted ISIS and this resistance has become a symbol. The defeat of ISIS in Kobanê was not only a military victory but also a spiritual victory. The international support also played an important role in the victory in Kobanê.”
‘When oppressed people resist, the whole world must stand with them’
In the message, Helen Gorik emphasized the importance of international support to the people of Rojava and said:
“When oppressed people resist, the whole world must stand with them. We must support the Rojava Revolution more than ever. The enemies of Rojava are afraid of the idea of freedom and women, who have the power to break down their hierarchies. Although the capitalist system attacks Rojava, the people still resist.”
‘We will never forget your sacrifices’
As internationalist women, we will continue to support the people of Rojava, Helen Gorik stressing, expressing her solidarity with the people of Rojava, “Because you fight for the dignity of humanity. Therefore, your fight is also our fight. We will not forget Kobanê and we will never forget your sacrifices. The struggle for freedom is universal. Unity and solidarity are the keys to victory. Jin, Jiyan, Azadî.”
