Qamishlo- Kongra Star Health Committee, in cooperation with Mala Jin (Women’s House) and communes, has started first aid training courses for Arab women in the Altai neighborhood of Qamishlo, a city in North and Easy Syria.
The aim of the courses is to raise public health awareness, Sebah Gemo, member of the committee, told NuJINHA.
‘Women demand such courses’
Each first aid course lasts at least 25 days, “Women attend the courses three hours every day. This year, we have started first aid training courses in the Altai neighborhood, where Arab people live. The participation in the courses is higher than before.” said Sebah Gemo. “When we first started the courses, women did not attend them due to fear. But now they actively attend the courses and demand such courses.”
‘Women should overcome obstacles’
Sebah Gemo thinks that women should be knowledgeable about everything to fight the patriarchal mindset. “All women should attend such courses to learn critical skills and what they should do when someone gets sick," she said, adding, "Women should participate in all facets of life. Women were freed from slavery and now free thanks to the life philosophy of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan). Therefore, women should overcome obstacles in their lives.”
