Emine Şenyaşar: Does this government have no conscience?
The Şenyaşar family has been seeking justice in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 704 days. “Does this government have no conscience?” asked Emine Şenyaşar.
Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar continues on its 704th day.
In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the Urfa Courthouse to demand justice for their murdered relatives by unfurling a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family”.
On the 740th day of the sit-in protest for justice, Ferit Şenyaşar said that they demands have not been met for 704 days, adding, “Maybe they think 704 days is not a long time but they should empathize with us. A mother over the age of 65 leaves her home every day to call on the prosecutors to deliver justice. Every day, prosecutors pass by us in their luxury vehicles.” Ferit Şenyaşar stated that the political power was also trapped under rubble by the earthquake, “Everyone expects a radical change in politics.”
‘The government protects them’
Emine Şenyaşar also made a speech. Highlighting that her son Fadıl Şenyaşar has been kept in a solitary cell for five years, Emine Şenyaşar asked, “Does this government have no conscience? They killed three members of a family but the government protects them. All innocent people must be released from prison now, my son should be released.”
‘A political change is needed’
Today’s social media post of the Şenyaşar family said, “Justice keeps the country alive. A radical political change is needed in the country to ensure justice. Our sit-in protest for Right, Law and Justice continues for 704 days.”
