DEM Party and TJA delegation visits Hewlêr
A delegation consisting of members of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) met a group of female politicians and activists in Hewlêr (Erbil).
News Center- The visit of a delegation consisting of the members of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and the Free Women’s Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA), including DEM Party Şırnak MP Newroz Uysal Aslan, DEM Party Hakkari MP Gülcan Kaçmaz, politician Ayşe Acar Başaran, continues in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Today, the delegation met a group of female politicians and activists in Hewlêr to discuss the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and the recent attacks on the region.
‘We want to cooperate with you more’
“As a group of female politicians and activists, we are happy to welcome the delegation,” said Parêz Omer, candidate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Erbil for the parliamentary elections to be held in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on October 20. “This meeting is both a friendly and national meeting and also a unique gathering of women.” Emphasizing the importance of unity, she said, “We have one nation no matter where we are. We want to cooperate with you more to solve the problems faced by women and our country. Our main aim is to pave the way for the women of Kurdistan to come together more.”
‘We have responsibilities’
Women face oppression and challenges in Kurdistan, in the Middle East and all around the world, Newroz Uysal Aslan said at the meeting. “The oppressive policies against us are different because we are Kurdish women. In Iran, Kurdish political prisoner Pakhshan Azizi has been sentenced to death. Today, Kurdistan suffers from a war. As Kurdish people and women, we have responsibilities. The unity, support and awareness of women will build our national reality because women are the foundation and leaders of their society.”
‘We discussed the situation of women’
In an interview with Rojnews, Newroz Uysal Aslan said that at the meeting, they discussed “The general situation of Kurdish women in Kurdistan and their problems caused by the war. In addition, we drew attention to the contributions of women to Kurdish national unity and the importance of forming a common platform of Kurdish women to share their experiences. We discussed the isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan, the unity among Kurdish people and launching global campaigns against the isolation.”
