Death toll in Afghan floods rises to 37

The death toll from recent rainstorms and flash floods across Afghanistan has risen to 37, the Taliban authorities said on Wednesday.

News Center- Since Monday, Afghanistan has been suffering from rainstorms and flash floods. At least 37 people, including seven women and three children, have been killed and 24 others injured in the rainstorms and flash floods, the Taliban authorities said on Wednesday.

Eight people were killed and six others injured in the Kandahar province, located in the southern region of Afghanistan while five people were killed and six others injured in the several districts of the Helmand province, located in the south of the country.

Local officials urged residents to take precautions and seek shelter, while emergency response teams keep working to assist those affected by the ongoing floods.

In 2024, the floods across eastern and northern Afghanistan killed hundreds. According to the United Nations, heavy rains and flash floods killed at least 500 people in Afghanistan in April and May 2024.
