Civilian Victims in Gaza as the Hunger Crisis Continues to Worsen

Gaza faces acute food insecurity threatening over 1.4 million people, with UN warnings on aid restrictions, as field escalation raises ceasefire-violation deaths to 1,467.

NEWS CENTER – The continuation of strict restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid is exacerbating the living and food crisis in an unprecedented manner in the Gaza Strip, as aid does not enter the Strip in sufficient quantities, which deepens the hunger crisis.

The United Nations warned today, Thursday, the eighth of October, of the worsening food insecurity crisis in the Gaza Strip in Palestine, confirming that humanitarian aid does not enter the Strip freely.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Sofia Monsalve Suárez, said that the continuation of restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid exacerbates the humanitarian and food crisis facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. She warned that aid does not reach the Strip with the necessary quantity and freedom, amid the continuation of high levels of food insecurity among the population.

The statements of the UN official came at a time when recent estimates indicate the continuation of high levels of food insecurity in the Strip. The projections of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) indicated that more than 1.4 million people, or about 67% of the population of the Gaza Strip, face an acute food insecurity crisis.

On the ground, a woman was killed and her husband and two children were injured today by Israeli artillery shelling that targeted their tent west of Gaza City, while Israeli forces carried out demolition operations on buildings and facilities south of the Strip.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli warships fired gunfire and shells in the sea off the coast of Gaza City. In the south of the Strip, local sources reported that Israeli forces carried out two detonation and demolition operations on buildings and residential facilities inside their deployment areas northeast of Khan Younis city, simultaneously with military vehicles firing intensively toward homes in the vicinity of the area.

Until yesterday, Wednesday, the seventh of October, Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement resulted in the killing of 1,467 Palestinians and the injury of 5,161 others, according to the latest data of the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.
