Civil war in Sudan displaces more than 7,000 households from West Kordofan

7,204 households were displaced from Al Khiwai and An Nuhud localities, Sudan’s West Kordofan, between May 1 and 2, 2025, due to heightened insecurity, according to the United Nations Migration Organization (IOM).

News Center- The conflict that erupted in mid-April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed thousands of civilians and displaced millions.

As the civil war has already entered its third year, the United Nations Migration Organization (IOM) has released a report, saying that 7,204 households were displaced from Al Khiwai and An Nuhud localities, Sudan’s West Kordofan, between May 1 and 2, 2025, “due to heightened insecurity”.

On May 1, 2025, clashes between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in An Nuhud town, An Nuhud locality in West Kordofan displaced an estimated total of 5,451 households, the report said.

According to the report, the majority (75%) were reportedly displaced to other locations within An Nuhud locality while others were displaced to Ghubaish (16%), Al Idia (4%), Wad Bandah (<1%), and As Salam (<1%) localities in West Kordofan, in addition to Gharb Bara locality (3%) in North Kordofan.

On May 2, 2025, clashes in Al Khiwai town, Al Khiwai locality in West Kordofan “displaced an estimated 1,678 households. The majority were displaced to locations within Al Khiwai locality (93%), while others were reportedly displaced to Gharb Bara (5%) and Shikran (2%) localities in North Kordofan,” the report said, adding that about 75 households were displaced due to attacks on Al Saradiba village in Al Khiwai locality on May 2, 2025.
