Qamishlo- The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) released a 9-item declaration offering a permanent and democratic solution to the Syrian crisis on April 19, 2023. In an interview with NuJINHA, Cîhan Xelîl, advisor of the AANES, expressed her thoughts about the declaration.

‘The efforts of foreign powers for a solution did not find a response in society’

Noting that the whole world has been suffering from crises, Cîhan Xelîl said that the Middle East has been suffering from crises more. “The recent war and conflicts broke out in Ukraine caused by these crises. In addition, many Middle Eastern countries have been suffering from economic, political and military crises. The efforts of foreign powers for a solution did not find a response in society because the solution offered by them served only their own interests.”

‘We took the initiative for solution’

Noting that the economic and political problems in Syria led the crisis and forcibly displaced thousands of people, Cîhan Xelîl said, “As the AANES, we took the initiative for a solution of this crisis by including all nations and political parties in the region as a party to this solution.”

‘The declaration gives particular importance to the interests of the people’

Speaking about the content of the declaration released by the AANES, Cîhan Xelîl said:

“Our declaration is a project consisting of 9 items that will offer a solution to the Syrian crisis. Before writing the declaration, many projects aiming to build a democratic, equal and social life were developed. The declaration gives particular importance to the interests of the people living in the region. The release of the declaration was very important in such a period. Our declaration offers a political, social and democratic solution that represents people from all nations in the region. The declaration was also prepared to protect the achievements and rights of the Kurdish people.”

 ‘Women have played an important role’

Emphasizing the important role of women in the preparation of the declaration, Cîhan Xelîl said, “We sent the copy of the declaration to the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), political parties and NGOs. The discussions on the declaration still continue. Women have played an important role in discussions because women lead the struggle for freedom and democracy. We are determined to offer a durable solution for all people living in Syria.”
