Atefeh Rangriz receives additional two-year prison sentence

Atefeh Rangriz, a women’s rights activist in Iran, has been sentenced to an additional two years in prison, the activist announced on Instagram on Wednesday.

News Center- Atefeh Rangriz, a women’s rights activist imprisoned in Shahroud prison, has been granted a three-day medical furlough to undergo CT angiography and sentenced to an additional two years in prison by Branch 102 of the Damghan Revolutionary Court on the charges of “spreading lies”, the activist announced Wednesday on Instagram.

 On September 10, 2023, Atefeh Rangriz was arrested by Iranian security forces in Damghan. On October 21, she was released on bail. On June 29, 2024, she was arrested again after being sentenced to two years, seven months, and sixteen days on charges of “collaborating and being a member of opposition groups” and to seven months and sixteen days on charges of “propaganda against the regime”. She was transferred to Shahroud prison to serve her prison sentence.

On November 22, 2024, she was sentenced to seven years and seven months in prison on charges of “forming a group with the intention of acting against national security” and “propaganda against state”, with a two year ban from activities on social media and online.
