The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the killing of 1,749 people since the beginning of this year, amid escalating violence, security unrest, and growing military operations that place civilians at the forefront of the casualties.

The death toll in Syria continues to rise throughout 2026, as the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the killing of 1,749 people since the beginning of the year until Wednesday, June 17, amid escalating violence and security unrest in various cities, the continued deterioration of the security situation, and the growth of incidents and military operations across the country.

The monthly statistics reveal variation in the number of victims. In January, 289 people were killed, including 33 women and 39 children. In February, the toll rose to 582 killed, marking the highest monthly toll of the current year.

The Observatory documented the killing of 238 people, including 7 women and 21 children, in March. In April, the number of fatalities reached 246, including 9 women and 34 children.

A total of 287 people were killed in May, distributed among 175 men and young men, 15 women, and 40 children. Since the beginning of June until Wednesday, the Observatory has documented the killing of 107 people, including 4 women and 9 children.

These figures reflect the continued state of security instability in Syria, with civilians remaining at the forefront of those affected by acts of violence, military operations, and security incidents occurring in various parts of the country.
