Amid Calls for Accountability… Two Elderly Baloch Women Beaten
Two elderly Baloch women were assaulted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at the Milak border crossing, in an incident that sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns about violence in border regions.
News Center – Recently, the city of Balochistan in southeastern Iran has witnessed increasing security tensions and violations against civilians, particularly members of the Baloch minority, who have long suffered from systematic repression and marginalization.
The two elderly women, both around 70 years old, were beaten at the Milak border crossing in Sistan and Balochistan on Thursday, October 23. The incident once again highlighted growing concerns about the IRGC’s violence against women and civilians in border areas.
According to reports, the assaulted women were merely trying to retrieve a bottle of gasoline they were carrying to sell in order to meet their daily needs. There was no act of disrespect or wrongdoing on their part.
Following the incident, a group of young people and activists from the Baloch community issued a statement condemning the attack and demanding an immediate investigation and punishment for the perpetrators. They emphasized that violence against citizens- especially elderly women- is unacceptable, and that security and judicial officials must be held accountable.
This incident is part of a series of recent reports documenting acts of violence committed by the IRGC against kolbars (border porters), fuel carriers, women, and children in Balochistan- raising concerns that high-level institutions may be supporting those responsible for such abuses.
