‘All Syrian women must play their role in building the new Syria’

“All Syrian women must play their role in building the new Syria. They should play an active role in drafting the new constitution,” said Rîma Îsa, coordinating member of Mala Jin (Women’s House) of North and East Syria.

Hasakah- With the fall of the Assad regime, Syria has entered a new chapter in its history. Syrian women want to play their role in all facets of life in the new Syria, including politics, decision-making positions and economy.

Rîma Îsa, coordinating member of Mala Jin (Women’s House) of North and East Syria, thinks that women must play their leading role in building a free and democratic Syria.

‘Women will do their part’

The July 19th Revolution, also known as the Rojava Revolution or Women’s revolution, was started by women with the spirit of the International Women’s Day, Rîma Îsa emphasized. “The revolution was led by women with the spirit of IWD. Women fought the patriarchal mindset by playing their part in the revolution. Thanks to their resistance and struggle, the Baathist regime was overthrown. The Baathist regime provided no method for the freedom of women and society, bringing society to a dead end. This regime collapsed when women responded to it with the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ philosophy.”

‘The new transitional government ignores women’

The collapse of the Baathist regime instilled hope in women and the Syrian people for a free life. “Unfortunately, the new transitional government ignores women and their leading role in society. Women are killed, attacked and kidnapped in the areas controlled by the government. The government aims to destroy the gains achieved by women in order to turn Syria into a slave Syria.”

‘Our main duty is to reach all women’

The mindset of the new transitional government led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is the Ottoman mindset, Rîma Îsa told NuJINHA. “The supporters of the Ottoman Empire aimed to defeat the women's struggle in North and East Syria by attacking them. However, they failed. They still aim to impose their own mindset in Syria by destroying the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ revolution and its gains.”

Rîma Îsa called on all women in Syria to “play their role in building the new Syria. There are women in the Syrian transitional government; however, they do not play an active role, they work like robots. These women do not represent Syrian women. We need women, who can represent us in the government. In the 21st century, our main duty is to break down the patriarchal mindset and reach all women. All Syrian women must play their role in building the new Syria. They should play an active role in drafting the new constitution.”
