Şenyaşar family keeps resisting

On the 535th day of their sit-in protest, the Şenyaşar family continues to demand justice for their murdered relatives.

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 535th day.

In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse from their home in Suruç. The mother and her son began to hold their protest in the shade at the entrance of the courthouse, where the police have been preventing them from holding their sit-in protest since August 8. Police officers, who could not break the resistance of the family, tried to prevent journalists from covering the protest. After the journalists were threatened, the family issued their press statement in the area called “Şenyaşar Family Justice Corner”, outside the courthouse.

“Injustice will go down in history”

Reading the statement, Ferit Şenyaşar said, “For two weeks, the authorities have been trying to send us away from the courthouse by using law enforcement. Our determination has broken this pressure for two days. Everyone trying to send us away from the courthouse takes a step back after realizing that we are determined. If Turkey is a state of law, we want the necessary action to be taken. When we started our protest, we said, ‘We will stay here until our demands are met’. Our demands are completely legal. Three people were killed at the State Hospital; two ambulances of the state were made unusable. One of my brothers has been held in a solitary cell unlawfully for four years. This injustice will go down in history.”

“They will go down in history”

“The mother’s resistance against injustice has turned into a novel. Everyone, who reads this novel, will understand what kind of injustice faced by the heartbroken mother. The mother is still in front of the courthouse. Those who remain silent to her cry will go down in history,” the Şenyaşar family wrote on their social media account today.
