Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 715th day.

In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse to seek justice for their murdered relatives again Unfurling a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family”, lit two candles to support the campaign, “Light a candle in your window” launched to be in solidarity with the earthquake victims.

 

‘A candle for earthquake victims, a candle for justice’

Ferit Şenyaşar made a speech in front of the courthouse. Underlining that one of the most important demands of society is justice, he said, “While some groups are trying to discriminate against people in society, opposition parties having different political views are trying to get the country out of this dark process by uniting. The most important demand of society is rights, law and justice. We have been in front of the courthouse demanding rights, law and justice for 715 days. We lit two candles in front of the courthouse so that this dark process would end; a candle for the earthquake victims, a candle for justice. The candles will burn until justice is ensured in this country.”

 

‘In front of the courthouse has become her home’

Today, the Şenyaşar family posted a tweet saying, “A mother, whose family members were killed, in front of the courthouse has become her home. She lit two candles to illuminate the darkness on the 715th day (of the sit-in protest). She lit a candle for those who have been affected by the earthquakes in 11 cities and a candle for her family. The Candles will burn until justice is ensured! #Lightacandle.”
