Tunisia- Tunisia will host the 3rd World Conference of grassroots women from 4 to 10 September with the participation of 300 women from 50 Arab, African and European countries. NuJINHA spoke to Amira Dalsh, a member of the preparation committee for the conference.

Stating that international leftist organizations in Germany suggested to some Tunisian activists and unionists that the conference should be held in Tunisia, Amira Dalsh said, “This suggestion was made during a visit by a delegation from the ICOR organization (International Coordination of Revolutionary Parties and Organizations) in Germany between 2017 and 2018; however, the conference was postponed until this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The conference will start after a march. Then the opening ceremony will begin with the participation of all participants. Many activities such as workshops, panels and exhibitions will be held during the conference. Workers, farmers and villagers will participate in the conference because most of the attendees will be left-wing activists and revolutionaries.”

“The conference will be the voices of marginalized groups”

Indicating that the conference will focus on the role of women in Tunisia and all around the world, Amira Dalsh said that the conference aims to get out of the bourgeois symbolism. “The grassroots women are the most marginalized group in the world and face many challenges. The difficulties and obstacles faced by these women will be addressed during the conference in search of possible solutions for this important segment of women. 300 women from 50 countries such as Germany, Belgium, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Iraq and Palestine will participate in the conference.”

Call for participation in the conference

Pointing out that many organizations and associations will also participate in the conference, Amira Dalsh said, “Several associations have made contribution to the conference, including the Million Rural Women and the landless, Tunisian Association of Democratic Women, Trade Union for Working Women, National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists, Tunisian Human Rights League and many more. I also call on all Tunisian organizations and associations, and all Tunisian revolutionaries and activists who believe in the rights of Tunisian women and women in all countries of the world to participate in the conference.”
