FEDA &DAKB: Violence and disappearances of women in Turkey are not isolated incidents

FEDA and DAKB affirmed that Turkish authorities have institutionalized an ongoing systematic regime of violence and disappearances against women, revealing the full extent of cover-ups and the absence of justice.

News Center – The phenomenon of femicide in Turkey reflects a deep social and legal crisis, as recent reports indicate that hundreds of women are killed annually despite protests and human rights pressures.

The Democratic Alevi Federation (FEDA) and the Democratic Alevi Women’s Federation (DAKB) issued a joint statement affirming that violence and disappearances of women in Turkey aren’t isolated incidents, but rather “the result of a systematic” and ongoing plan.”

The statement explained that a system of silence exists at various levels of state institutions, and that destroying evidence, concealing the truth, and delaying justice have become systematic. It drew attention to the case of the disappearance of young woman klistan Doku as one of the most prominent examples of this situation.

It pointed out that the failure to find Klistan Doku for six years reinforces suspicions of deliberate concealment of the truth, affirming that the truth has been left in darkness. "We know the truth is not far from us, it has been covered up."

The statement affirmed that cases such as those of Rojin Kabaiş, İpek Er, Rabia Naz Vatan, Nadire Kadirova, and Yıldana Kirman remain unresolved, adding that these files indicate a common problem, asking, "What is expected for justice to be achieved?"

The statement called on the Turkish authorities to open a transparent and effective investigation and to reveal the circumstances of the crime, emphasizing the violation of women's right to life and that families have been left in a state of uncertainty for many years.

Both FEDA and DAKB, non-governmental organizations, declared that they will not abandon their demand for truth and justice. "We will not remain silent before this darkness, because there is no room for silence on our path. The Alevi faith that pulses in the heart of Dersim teaches us this. Every life is equal, every life is sacred, and the truth will emerge sooner or later."
