The detention of Öznur Değer comes in the context of rising human rights criticism directed at the authorities regarding their treatment of journalists and the media work environment in the country.
A new lawsuit has been filed against Öznur Değer, news director of the JINNEWS agency, based on her reaction during her detention and the torture and psychological violence she was subjected to during the raid on her family’s home in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin province on February 7, 2025.
According to the indictment prepared by the Kızıltepe Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Öznur Değer faces charges of "resisting the prevention of duty" and "insult." The Sixth Criminal Court of First Instance in Kızıltepe has officially accepted the indictment.
